 SANTA CATERINA 

L’Estartit – Sobrestany – L’Abolleria - Bellcaire d’Empordà – Sta. Caterina -  Ullà – Torroella de Montgrí – L’Estartit

This bicycling touring trip begins in front of Estartit Tourism Office. We take the old path which used to link this village and Torroella de Montgrí and we are going to leave it about three kms away in order to follow the path through “les Dunes”. This landscape is make up of hills of sand that “la tramuntana” (north wind) brought in days gone from Roses golf. Nowadays, these dunes are fixed by a wonderful pine wood.

We will go through a small group of houses called Sobrestany because there used to be a small lake  drained nowadays. There ‘s also The Sobrestany Animal Park that would be nice to visit: http://personal2.iddeo.es/parcanimal

We are going to arrive to Santa Caterina through a narrow valley plenty of vegetation till the 2004 fire. Man things that the chapel was founded at 1392 by Monserrat monks and restored in the 18^th century. “Santa Caterina Aplec” (an open air popular celebration) is very important in this region; at the end of November, by the special day, the valley gets full with  people to celebrate this traditional fiesta.

On the return journey,  we will pass through Ullà, Torroella de Montgrí and La Gola, the river’s estuary name where we can look at nice views to the sea and Medes Islands.
