Description of the cycling route: This
cycling route runs through the region of El Gironès between the small
towns of Cassà de la Selva and Llagostera and gives you a taste of the
region of La Selva near Caldes de Malavella. The
route is circular, like many other routes
that the ADAC describes on this website. It starts in Cassà de la Selva,
in front of the old railway station of the
so-called carrilet, the small train which once ran between Girona
and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, and whose track is today a Green Way. First,
the route will follow the Green Way for a while in the direction of
Llagostera. However, we will soon leave the Green Way, because we already
know it quite well and want to follow other less well-known routes… Trying to avoid big hills, you
will continue along a route at the feet of the Gavarres, cycling through oak-,
holm oak- and pinewoods, and
through some cultivated fields, on quiet
mud tracks.
Near Llagostera, you will come to the Green Way again and just
cross it. At the same point, you will
have to cross the C-253 road (which runs between Vidreres, Llagostera and
Platja d’Aro); this could be a dangerous spot and this is why we propose
another option (see below). You will cross this route again a bit later,
but this time you will have fun cycling through a very amusing tunnel
where you will have to mind your heads –it is a bit low- and your feet –there
is often a little water in it!- (it is not deep and it has a hard floor).
Some signposts for the “Carril Verd” (the Green Way) and “Carril
Groc” (the Yellow Way) at this place will show you
some other routes for bicycles. You
will then cycle around the southern and western
parts of Llagostera and on the way back cycle northwards; here you
will see less woodland and more
cultivated fields. The route will become flatter and will continue along
mud tracks. You will
find some streams with no fords and you will have to go through the water!…
and the hermitage of Sant Vicenç d’Esclet just before arriving in Cassà
de la Selva, where the route will end at the same carrilet
railway station where you started. We often use some parts of this
route as an alternative to the Green Way from Girona to Sant Feliu de Guíxols;
these are three parallel routes which are connected at the beginning and
end and which each reveal very different places. NOTES: -
OPTION: Near Llagostera, you find road C-253 (which runs between
Vidreres, Llagostera and Platja d’Aro); it is often very busy with
traffic and it can be dangerous to cross it. We recommend the OPTION that
you can see marked
with points on the map and in the road book. The
route is shortened by about 2 km. and the first part runs along the Green
Way in the direction of Llagostera. -
You will find BAR and
RESTAURANT services in Cassà de la Selva, the restaurant Panedes near the
residential area (Urbanització) “Els Escuts”, and beside the Green
Way in the outskirts of Llagostera. English version: Sara Puigdemont and Vivien Greatorex
